What Do We Mean By Cleaning Colour Codes?
What difference does using a colour code for equipment make to commercial cleaning standards? Commercial cleaning standards are not just about whether a floor looks clean and shiny bright. It is also about whether a surface is hygienically clean.
Think about it!
Your staff are consistently in contact with contagious viruses. They exist on door handles, phone hand piece, computer keyboards mice etc. That can lead to loss of employee time, sickness cover costs and lost production time.
Colour codes for cleaning equipment
These were introduced to enable a clear separation of equipment used for cleaning. None of us want to pick up infections from one area and spread it around the rest of the workplace.
The obvious example would be using a red mop to clean the toilets and then using the same red mop bucket a couple of minutes later to clean the kitchen. The same should of course be said about cleaning cloths as well.
However using a colour code can also stop oil and sand etc on a workshop floor being taken by a mop or brush into smart office carpet areas.
Restaurant kitchen staff use a similar system of colour codes. They are used to prevent cross contamination across cooked and uncooked meats. They also use a colour code for carving knives when cutting different types of food.
Clean Care Scotland conforms with the colour coding system adopted by the general commercial cleaning industry. This is usually interpreted as being:-
Exceptions To This Cleaning Colour Code System
There are times when we have to use another cleaning equipment coding system.
For example we clean for a major international pizza restaurant chain here in Scotland. They use the colour code system for cleaning equipment adopted by their international HQ in the USA.
In this case we are obviously happy to use their colour coding cleaning charts. After all it still fits our criteria of enabling very clear separation of areas. We just make sure that our cleaning staff are fully trained and understand the reasons for the different colour code standards.
Commercial Cleaning Standards
Surely it is the responsibility of all concerned in working there to ensure the highest level of commercial cleaning standards are adopted and complied with at all times. Using standard colour codes for all our cleaning contracts is just part of the standard.
Note Clean Care Scotland have taken it an extra stage further for safety reasons. We have recently introduced a range of cleaning chemicals that will not only clean but also kill germs and bacteria. These also come in containers that use the same colour code set out above.
