Clean Care Scotland have a range of specialist teams trained specifically to tackle issues such as computer cleaning across Scotland. This is one cleaning job that should never just be left to your regular office cleaners. Very few of them will have been specifically trained for this type of computer cleaning work.
Do you know how important it is to have your computer cleaned on a regular basis?
The issue is not just about appearance of your computer accessories as important that may be. this page will be looking at the effect that a dirty computer can have on staff health issues. You will be able to find out about the health of your computer and keeping it alive and working well in Part Two here.
“Should somebody have a cold in your office, or even have gastroenteritis, you’re very likely to pick it up from a keyboard. If you look at what grows on computer keyboards, (and hospitals are worse believe it or not), it’s more or less a reflection of what’s in your nose and in your gut.”
Dr Peter Wilson Consultant Microbiologist – University College London Hospital
Your office keyboard and mouse are likely to be the most dangerous things on the average office desk.
Indeed it has been found from research carried out both in the USA and in London that it is safer to eat your office lunch on a toilet seat than it would be on the average office desk. Ask any of our Computer Cleaning Scotland team members where they would rather sit — after all they have seen the inside of lots of dirty computer keyboards and mice.
Now think about the number of crumbs that have been dropped on your keyboard whilst on their way to your mouth? As the crumbs slip down between the keys they can become breeding grounds for all sort of germs.
Now think about the number of times you have coughed or sneezed over your keyboard. What has happened to all those germs? Many will have settled on the keys. And multiplied!
Are you hot-desking or sharing computers at any time?
Who is going to pick up those germs you left behind? Whose germs are you picking up from the keyboard in front of you as you read this page?
Who is doing this kind of computer cleaning for you? Is anyone trained to help keep your staff healthy and your equipment clean?
During the Which? (The Consumer Association) tests in January this year, a microbiologist deemed one of their own office keyboards to be so dirty he ordered it to be immediately removed, quarantined and cleaned. He found it had 150 times the recommended limit for bacteria — five times as filthy as a office lavatory seat tested at the same time.
