Going To Green Office Cleaning.
Just what does it mean in practice? We had to ask ourselves a lot of questions about what we would find acceptable as part of a green cleaning service. Even if the product was green and environmentally safe what about the packaging?
Example 1.
A green commercial cleaning chemical container constructed of eco-friendly products that can be recycled would certainly be considered excellent. Yes it would.
So far so good.
Example 2
If we use a 5 litre plastic container consisting of super concentrated green cleaning solutions that can be watered down at the point of use. That would reduce the number of trucks carrying watery products around the country. That would certainly be regarded as excellent — much less diesel means a smaller carbon footprint.
Questions
What if that container is made out of chemicals that have to be transported halfway around the world to be used here? Does that mean a bigger carbon footprint than a container made nearer home that can not be recycled as easily?
However that super concentrated green office cleaning product has had to come from another country to reach us. Whether it is airmiles or sea delivery to the UK it still adds to the carbon price of of our green office cleaning, doesn’t it? What if there was no other concentrated green office cleaning product available?
Yes, we are asking the suppliers these very same inquiries before purchasing. However are we obtaining the correct answers? Just how do we know they even bothered to check themselves?
The two scenario examples we quoted above over were asked in telephone calls to a few of our “green office cleaning” competitors. It was obvious they had not even given any real thought process to the issues.
Saving electricity for green office cleaning customers.
We have discussed day time cleaning with a number of our office cleaning contract customers. A number of them have clients coming to them and it could be awkward to clean around them.
We know daytime cleansing will commonly lower the amount of electrical lights made use of on a night. We have encouraged some customers who are aware of our green office cleaning code to have their non-customer areas cleaned first. As the retail store closes we move our office cleaning groups out into the retail areas.
Clean Care Scotland know we don’t have all the green cleaning answers yet. I don’t believe any green office cleaning company that states they are 100% green. Those companies I have telephoned had not even considered several of the green office cleaning issues I put to them.
Maybe they should be much more truthful in their “green” advertising.
We are still looking at other opportunities to examine just how we can discover better green office cleaning solutions. In the mean time we will certainly continue doing just what we can and expect updates on this subject in the quite near future.
